Perhaps you have seen my Chistmas round up of new tools for Furniture & Cabinetmaking magazine, Issue 135?
I made a grave mistake by failing to mention that several of them are only available in the UK, from Mike Hancock of Classic Hand Tools phone 01449 721327 Mike works extremely hard to find, import and promote these tools, at the many woodworking shows around the country. If we do not support independent tool shops like his there will soon be none left, which will be an incalculable loss. (You may not have heard that Axminster have bought Brimark). I also find it odd, that since Axminster took over the import of Lie-Nielsen tools in UK there seem to be very poor stocks of items that sell well at Christmas. Obviously I do not know the precise reasons for this unfortunate situation. Anyway, I apologise profusely to Mike for my thoughtless assumption that every one else knows where to find those tools. David, I too am frustrated that Axminster seems to be out-of-stock on many Lie-Nielsen tools. Classic Hand Tools offers 2 and 3-tool sets of Lie-Nielsen dovetail and tenon saws. Of course they're very dear, but the price increment to step up to the larger (14") tenon saws in the 3-saw set is only £12. Can you tell me if there is any (dis)advantage in having the 14" tenon saws versus the 12"? Would you lose maneuverability and touch with the bigger saws' length and weight? I am not concerned with sawing speed, but I do care about accuracy, sawing straight lines and having the saw feel comfortable in my hand. I do have large hands, so I'm wondering if the larger saws also have larger handles. FYI, I've seen an online review of a L-N bench plane where the reviewer thought the tote was too small. Jim, I am not a big user of Tenon Saws, but my feeling is that bigger would almost certainly be better, in this case. Perhaps some other readers will offer their opinions? best wishes, David |

I just thought that I would bring to your readers attention a new hammer that I stumbbled accoss thats incredible. Its not often that such an original new tool that is really usefull comes to market.I am just supprised that I havent seen it out there before.so I thought that I would just let everybody know. |
