The Short Course dates for
2009 are up on the website. There is a gap in August when
more courses may be added according to demand.
There will also be three weekend courses in the period
September to December, dates to be arranged. The two topics
will be:
1.How to cut simple dovetails
2.Tool sharpening.
If you are interested in attending either two day course in
the Harton Manor workshop (soup for lunch included) please
contact us to express an interest. There is excellent food
at the Hart Inn next door and a convenient B & B also next
door, on the other side.

Westonbirt Show
David and I were at Westonbirt briefly this last weekend.
David shared a bench with Konrad Sauer in Mike Hancock's
Classic Hand tools tent, which I thought should be called
Mike's World. We were surrounded by plane makers and
exquisite planes made by Bill Carter, Konrad and Philly.
David's master class was well received by a full audience in
the tent, which was equipped with small TV screens and an
expert camera man. This meant that details could be seen
clearly even at the back of the tent, though a young whippet
who had been dragged in by his owner, did not seem
impressed. Thanks to Mike Hancock for arranging everything.
We met several people there, including Colin Eden-Eadon (ex
F & C editor) who looked like a new man. His job as Head of
Department at the Building Crafts College in London
evidently suits him.

This summer's courses are now over. One Belgian
student Ann Vanden Branden arrived having cycled from
Okehampton to Hartland, which is not an easy trip. After
a week here, she then cycled down into Cornwall going
to Bude, Boscastle, Padstow, Newquay, Penzance, Cape Cornwall,
and then with the wind behind her to Truro, Mevagissey
and Bodmin. She loved the trees and hedges and wild flowers
here, and promises to return. |

Visitors to the Workshop
We were visited briefly by David Barron , who was down
in Devon on business. He brought with him some very impressive
tools that he had made. |

| Keith Turner and Jason Hughes also called to see us,
they were students here in 2004. Keith lives in Vancouver
but returns yearly to check on relatives. It was good
to see them both. Keith brought with him one of the
splendid infill planes that he has made. |
